Science Fair

Laurel Elementary School recently hosted its third annual Science Fair on May 19, led by STEAM teacher Mrs. Wenner, showcasing student curiosity, creativity, and innovation across all grade levels.

The Science Fair featured three engaging components designed to highlight student learning and exploration. Kindergarten students proudly presented habitat dioramas, demonstrating their understanding of animals and ecosystems through colorful and detailed displays. First and second grade students created science boards focused on areas of personal interest, exploring topics through research, experiments, and hands-on learning experiences. In addition, Mrs. Peters shared one of the fair’s most exciting attractions — baby chicks that recently hatched from eggs the students helped care for and observe throughout the incubation process.

The event celebrated the many ways students can explore science and engineering. Some students conducted experiments and shared their findings, while others demonstrated new knowledge through creative projects. One student proudly explained a homemade water filtration system designed to demonstrate how water can be cleaned and purified. Another impressive project featured a truck engineered from cardboard boxes, toothpick axels, and bottle cap wheels, highlighting creativity and problem-solving skills.

Throughout the fair, students enthusiastically explained their projects and learning to visitors, demonstrating both confidence and a deep understanding of their work. Their excitement and pride were evident as they shared what they had discovered and created.

Laurel’s Science Fair continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students to explore, investigate, create, and communicate their learning in engaging and authentic ways. The event was a wonderful celebration of student achievement and curiosity in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
