LAUREL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Principal: Jennifer Dwyer
The Laurel Elementary School Accountability Plan provides a focus for our school that will align with the District’s Plan Plans. The Accountability Plans are divided into four areas:
- High Academic Achievement
- Holistic Accountability
- Positive School Climate
- Parent and Community Engagement
In our plan for High Academic Achievement, we are expecting each grade level to increase their student’s reading, writing, and mathematical ability by 5% or more. In reading, this means that at least:
Under Holistic Accountability, all of our classroom teachers will take part in a data team process. They meet with teachers in their grade level every two weeks and discuss “best practices” to improve student performance. They will also be looking at the data of the students in their class and discussing/making plans to improve their students’ academic ability.
Our Positive School Climate goal is to decrease the percentage of families who indicate bullying is a problem at our school from 30% to 20%. We have some exciting programs to reward students who do behave and encourage more students to follow our three rules (respect, responsibility, and self-control).
Finally, the Parent and Community Engagement goal is to ensure effective involvement of parents and support a partnership with the community. Our Watch D.O.G. (Dads of Great Students) Program and our Passport to Reading Program with the Prosser and Wintonbury Libraries help us reach this goal.
OUR VISION
The road to success begins in Kindergarten at Laurel Elementary School. Early intervention for basic literacy skills plays a key role in student success. Children follow a general pattern of development, and we must meet them where they are to move them forward emotionally, socially and academically. All children can learn in a safe and encouraging school environment. Utilizing research-based practices improves student learning. Active partnerships between home and school promote academic growth.
OUR MISSION
Laurel Elementary School seeks to create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations for success through development-appropriate instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles. Our school promotes a safe, orderly, caring, and supportive environment. Each student's self-esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff. We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members actively involved on our students' learning.
