Vision,Mission, and Core Values

OUR VISION

Our vision is for students to engage in active academic, intellectual and social experiences that ignite their passion for learning.   Teachers will use collaboration and   the best instructional practices to support the whole child and build the foundation for college and career readiness. All students will learn in a safe, caring and positive school environment that fosters a sense of community, inclusion and acceptance. Our families and community stakeholders will be treated with respect, engage in active partnership and be valued as members of our school village promoting academic success for all students.

OUR MISSION

Laurel Elementary School seeks to create a challenging, culturally responsive learning environment built on high expectations to promote success through differentiation and developmentally appropriate instruction.  Our school promotes a safe, orderly, and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, communicators and responsible citizens. We strive to increase partnerships through family engagement, teacher collaboration, and community members’ active engagement to achieve success for all students.

The Laurel Elementary School Accountability Plan provides a focus for our school that will align with the District’s Plan Plans. The Accountability Plans are divided into four areas:

High Academic Achievement
Holistic Accountability
Positive School Climate
Parent and Community Engagement
In our plan for High Academic Achievement, we are expecting each grade level to increase their student’s reading, writing, and mathematical ability by 5% or more. In reading, this means that at least:

Under Holistic Accountability, all of our classroom teachers will take part in a data team process. They meet with teachers in their grade level every two weeks and discuss “best practices” to improve student performance. They will also be looking at the data of the students in their class and discussing/making plans to improve their students’ academic ability.

Our Positive School Climate goal is to decrease the percentage of families who indicate bullying is a problem at our school from 30% to 20%. We have some exciting programs to reward students who do behave and encourage more students to follow our three rules (respect, responsibility, and self-control).

Finally, the Parent and Community Engagement goal is to ensure effective involvement of parents and support a partnership with the community. Our Watch D.O.G. (Dads of Great Students) Program and our Passport to Reading Program with the Prosser and Wintonbury Libraries help us reach this goal.
