On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, Laurel Elementary School and Metacomet Elementary School were officially recognized by the   Boys & Girls Clubs of America as a “charter” sites. This charter designation supports the Boys & Girls Clubs’ commitment to serving more than 440 students at Bloomfield Public Schools.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford (BGCH) has been an active partner with Bloomfield Public Schools since 2016. They provide extended day opportunities focused on science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). This is an example of a 21st century learning strategy that the district believes will accelerate the academic outcomes for our students. In addition, the BGCH provides after-school academic support and a “Power Hour” program.

In alignment with our Priority 4: Family and Community Engagement, the BGCH partnership has been a valuable contributor to the overall achievement of Bloomfield students.

At the ceremony, Dr. Thompson thanked the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford for joining Bloomfield Public Schools in the extended day initiative. In pursuit of excellence, the district will continue to engage key stakeholders and the community through vital partnerships. Dr. Thompson also recognized the districts’ primary funder, The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, for their unwavering support.
